Best Snack Stops For El Paso Stoners Leaving New Mexico
El Paso juts into New Mexico which puts the land of enchantment, and a bunch of legal marijuana dispensaries, on 3 sides. Luckily, snacks are as easy to find as ganja.
Despite a few "half steps", Texas still refuses to legalize marijuana. Fortunately for Borderland tokers, that's not too big of a deal as dispensaries abound here. In fact, over the summer, Sunland Park ... thanks mostly to Texas pot fans ... wound up leading the state in total marijuana sales.
Now that we know where area Texans are getting their 420 on, where should they go after? It's a quick hop to the dispensary but, following that visit, a quick stop for a bite or a drink may be in order.
Fortunately, there are plenty of spots to grab everything from a quick snack to full on fine dining. When the munchies kick in, here are a few of my favorite spots to settle them down.
If you're shopping in Sunland Park, you have lots of nearby options:
Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino - Here you can have a quick snack from the grill or go big with a stop at Corralitos Steak House. Each option also offers cold beer and a full bar.
Rosas Cantina - Quick burrito fix, full on Mexican plate or just chips and salsa; Rosa's has 'ya covered. With a cool, old western-y kind of vibe and a full bar; it's a great place to relax and enjoy a good buzz.
Twin Peaks - This one's, (mostly), for the guys. It's a good one though ... wings and other bar foods as well as full on entrees, 27 degree draft beer and hotties. You could do worse.
The State Line - Try the ribs ... seriously. Sometimes you get a live band too.
There are other dispensaries along the Texas/New Mexico border near El Paso. If you're shopping in Chaparral, you'll find a cool bakery/panaderia right down the street from one of them. Funny side note ... and this happened way before legal mota was a thing ... it's address is 420 McCombs. Really.
If you're headed back from Cruces, stop in Old Mesilla for some great Mexican food in a historical setting at La Posta. "Bake" while they bake, (your enchiladas), and ponder the history of the place or contemplate the birds and piranha in the lobby.
Want munchies or a drink and a little solitude, sans tropical birds and man eating fish? Visit Hacienda De Mesilla a few blocks away on Avenida De Mesilla.
No matter which way you go, your reentry into Texas doesn't have to be a hungry one.
