Wow…Remember When El Paso Was on World’s Wildest Police Videos?
If you've ever watched World's Wildest Police Videos, you know that Texas has had a HEAVY presence on the show. Many episodes have shown various incidents throughout the show; but in one episode that aired in 2010, El Paso had a starring role. Our cast features a jewelry store, a wheelchair, a trash bag & two bandits that tried to rob that store with a kitchen knife.
When was El Paso, Texas featured in World's Wildest Police Videos?
If you watched season 5 of the show, the very last season of WWPV, you'll recall seeing an incident in "North Mesa, Texas".
Well in actuality, this WAS North Mesa...located on El Paso. More specifically, this was at the Estate & New Jewelry store on N Mesa St. The part of the episode showed two robbers, one pushing a wheel chair & the other wearing a disguise... a trash bag over her face. But don't laugh! She WAS still dangerous; she was carrying a HUGE knife. That's nothing to laugh at.
The robber didn't go far, as she had her knife removed from a brave customer. The segment ends showing the security footage of the police cars arresting the two suspects. We can DEFINITELY tell these are El Paso police cars thanks to their easily recognizable white paint & blue emblem.
It's even crazier that this incident was included in the very final episode for the show too; which you can watch the entire episode on YouTube.
Here's the true story behind the El Paso segment on World's Wildest Police Videos.
If you wanted to know the ENTIRE story behind this clip; the incident happened on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. Two people, 44 year old Noemi Duchene & 45 year old Luis Del Castillo, robbed the Estate & New Jewelry (now the Jewel Gallery) located 7134 N Mesa St. The owner, Linda Bradely, drew a stun gun to ward off the charging Noemi; she was tackled and her knife removed before cops showed up.
We can definitely confirm this was the same spot looking at these Google Map screenshots that show the Colony Cove sign in the background as well as the Paco Wongs sign across the street by comparing to the clip shown in the show.
Just in case you need help finding the signs, here you go.
It's truly astonishing that a show I grew up watching, actually showed El Paso to a national audience, let alone it was one of the craziest stories to come out of the Sun City. Only in El Paso, right?
Moral of the story? If you're gonna rob a store, don't have a wheelchair for a getaway car (no I'm kidding!). The ACTUAL moral is DON'T ROB A STORE because you WILL get in trouble.
This wasn't the first time El Paso has been featured a police tv show; oh no we've made several appearances on another favorite: Cops.
