It's poppy season in El Paso! Although you wouldn't be able to tell.

Poppy season is a great time in El Paso. As a life long Northeaster, I'm always happy to report back to people and let them know when the poppies start popping up. Every year, El Pasoans, and many tourists around the area, head for the mountains in hopes of getting their picture-perfect poppy season selfie- and I don't blame them, they're beautiful!

However, this year, it seems like the poppies were kind of a bust.

In 2019 we saw an amazing super bloom of poppies, and we all love the poppies to get that perfect selfie, but it seems as though 2019 was the last time we got to see a sea of yellow on the Franklin Mountains, because for the third year in a row, the poppies festival was canceled.

Monika over on our sister station KISS FM, contacted the Museum of Archeology via social media and asked about the poppy bloom to which they said:

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there will not be a Poppies Festival this year. We also don't anticipate a huge poppy bloom this year, although some flowers are starting to come out.

It is true that some flowers have popped out, as pointed out by photographer Miguel:

But it doesn't seem like it was enough of a bloom because I haven't seen the countless selfies from people at the poppies.

Maybe next year we'll get a beautiful bloom, for now, all we have are our selfies.
