ESPN’s Pat McAfee Gives UTEP Kicker Praise After UTEP-FIU Game
This past Wednesday, El Paso's UTEP Miners football team traveled to Miami to take on the Florida International University (FIU) Panthers; the Miners would leave Miami with a victory, 27-14. Although the main thing people were talking about was not the game or most of the highlights; it was one moment in particular involving an FIU player & UTEP kicker Buzz Flabiano out of Plano Texas.
Here's that moment from the UTEP-FIU game
In case you missed the game, just before halftime, UTEP was up 21-7 & Flabiano takes the field to kick a field goal. He makes it, giving UTEP 3 more points. However a flag is called on Flabiano for unsportsmanlike conduct. Looking at the play, well...you can decide whether or not that flag is warranted. (Personally I disagree more so with the commentator saying that kickers AREN'T athletes, which they ARE).
Whether you thought the call was appropriate or not, one person came to Buzz's defense; former Indianapolis Colts punter & ESPN sports analyst, Pat McAfee.
Here's what Pat McAfee said about UTEP's Buzz Flabiano
After watching the game, Pat took to Twitter, reposted the clip of the unsportsmanlike conduct flag thrown on Buzz and quite honestly, gave him some pretty high praise, calling him a "dawg". (Maybe it's because Pat did HIS share of kicking during his time in the NFL)
And if you go online, people tend to side with Pat's opinion; when someone nearly takes you out, sometimes you need to flex on them. Another thing worth mentioning is that Sports Center even shared a photo of UTEP posing in front of the FIU Lambo (nice)
I love seeing people talk about UTEP & their players; let's hope to see more highlights like this.
