Danielle and Alexander Meitiv let their children, ages 6 and 10, walk home from a nearby park alone and wound up being investigated for child neglect.

Cops stopped the kids and drove them home.  According to foxnews.com, the cops lectured the parents on the dangers of letting kids walk alone and left.

Then, child protective services interviewed the kids at school, sought to examine their home and forced the parents to sign a "safety plan" promising not to EVER leave the kids alone.  When their father said he wanted to speak to a lawyer before signing it, CPS threatened to take the children away from them.  Right then!

Watch the video and then tell me;

Are the authorities right to threaten these people over this?

Or is this the governments "nanny state" mentality once again rearing it's ugly, controlling head?
