Alice In Chains...John 5...Nancy Wilson...what do these names have in common? These are all names that one El Paso artist got to work with in her lifetime. Karmann Sloane aka Sketchy Goat, had recently had some of her artwork not only shown by these bands online, but...on stage as well.

In case you're wondering, yes. this is in fact a kick drum head of the late Charlie Watts. The iconic drummer of the Rolling Stones being used by Sean Kinney, the drummer of Alice in Chains, during a live show.

That's not the only time that Karmann's work was used on stage either. Sean also used this drum set with the face of the late Taylor Hawkins during another concert.

So the big question you have to wonder is...how did Karmann get so fortunate to have her artwork used on stage by such huge names in the rock world?

Well after talking to Karmann, someone I had the pleasure of performing with when she was in the band Redsand, she always talked about how much she admired Iron Maiden & art:

"I’ve never not been drawing. I’ve never wanted to do anything else, and it was the one thing I never quit or stopped for whatever reason. The first time I saw Derek Riggs talk about what he did for Iron Maiden,I knew exactly what I wanted to be in life."

"I’ve managed to use instagram to its’ fullest potential...In 2020, I tried my best to draw every day and I found out pretty quickly that the folks I was drawing were taking notice of my work. The Smashing Pumpkins, who were actually my first official client, found me through my social media, as did artists like John 5, Nancy Wilson, Jerry Cantrell and more. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to animate lyric videos for bands like Jane N’ The Jungle which is something I never though would be possible without years of degrees and hassle"

If you want to see some of her original artwork, here's a couple of pieces that she's done:

Here's one of the Gish album by Smashing Pumpkins.

You can also see her artwork in the Jane N' The Jungle video for Metal Ghost:

So she's become a pretty established name by this point. But I wanted to know how she got her artwork used by Alice In Chains...

"I had the opportunity to work for Jerry Cantrell on his recent solo tour doing a few event posters and a shirt design, so when Sean [Kinney, of Alice in Chains] asked about needing an artist that knew their way around psychedelia, my name got brought up at rehearsals. Seeing as how Alice in Chains is my favorite band, this was the opportunity of a lifetime. Art-wise, I feel really honored to pay tribute to such legends on his kit, both as a fan and for one of the greatest drummers ever."

Here's one of the posters she designed for the legendary Alice In Chains guitarist:
