One of the Oldest Stores In El Paso Opens New Location
El Paso has an amazing history & if you look around, you can find many stores still open after years, sometimes decades. One of the oldest grocery stores in El Paso is not only still very much open, but they will be opening up a second location this weekend.
Economy Wholesale Grocers started off as a small family business (formerly called "Economy Cash & Carry") on S. Ochoa St back in 1958 to help not only the people of El Paso, but Mexico & the Southwest.
Today in 2021, it has grown into a giant store with a HUGE inventory, similar to a Costco or a Sam's located on 1500 E. Paisano. One look inside the store, you can definitely see the resemblance.
For over 60 years, many people in the Paso Del Norte region have gone to shop & shown their appreciation. Even during the Pandemic, the store offered delivery services to people who couldn't cross the Border bridge and go to the store in person.

Economy Wholesale Grocers celebrated their 60th anniversary back in 2018 & this weekend, they have another reason to celebrate: they've been teasing since September a grand opening for another store location, this time on the far east side & it's finally here:
The new location is set to open October 9th at 411 N Zaragoza which used to be an old Kmart location but now it'll be reused again as the 2nd spot for Economy. There will be food trucks, entertainment by Frontera Bugalu, Sultanes del Yonke, Mariachis Femenil Flores, Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo Social Dance Group & it all starts at 12 noon this Saturday
