El Paso the “Menudo Capitol” of the World? These People say YES.
Apparently, El Paso ranks in the TOP 10 places to get menudo, twice, but do you agree?
Menudo is a traditional Mexican soup or stew made with hominy (dried corn kernels that have been treated with an alkali), tripe (the stomach of a cow or other ruminant animal), and various spices.
It is typically served with lime, cilantro, and chopped onions.
Menudo is also believed to have healing properties and is often consumed as a hangover cure or to combat the common cold.
I can personally confirm that last part.
But Mexicans take their culture very seriously and menudo is something that is sentimental to people, they have strong opinions about where the best is made.
Gang wars and street fights have been happening for years over Menudo, just ask Ricky Martin.
#1 was El Paso's very own Good Luck Cafe.
#3 was La Nueva Casita Café in Las Cruces New Mexico.
#6 was La Choza on the east side of El Paso.
Personally, I thought most people would say their mom's or their abuelas menudo was the best.
