Nobel Prize Awarded to Texas Professor

John Goodenough is a professor at the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin.

John Goodenough is also a Nobel Prize winner.

Goodenough is one of the scientists behind the lithium battery. He helped jump the wireless and mobile revolution by identifying and developing the materials that were needed for lithium batteries. For this accomplishment, he is being awarded the Nobel Prize for chemistry, along with Stanley Whittingham of the State University of New York at Binghamton and Akira Yoshino of Meijo University.

When asked about the award, Goodenough said:

Live to 97 (years old) and you can do anything. I’m honored and humbled to win the Nobel prize. I thank all my friends for the support and assistance throughout my life.
