Want An Easy Valentines Day Getaway? Try These New Mexico Towns Near El Paso
If you're looking for a Valentines Weekend getaway, you won't have to go far. These 3 New Mexico towns, near El Paso, offer beautiful and romantic settings.
A beautiful Valentines Day getaway is just 2 hours away from El Paso in a tiny New Mexico town ... village, technically ... that travel website Islands called a "western winter wonderland".
Cloudcroft, New Mexico is an easy drive from El Paso; just take US 54 north to Alamogordo, then highway 82 east. Pro tip: for bonus romantic points, stay at The Lodge. It's a beautiful hotel built in 1899 with a great restaurant, a cool bar and a ghost.
Roughly the same distance from El Paso, but going the other way, lies Silver City, New Mexico. It's an easy drive via I-10 west, then US 180 west. Pro Tip #1: To get the most beauty for your buck, take the longer route through Hillsboro. (I-10 to I-25 north, then 25 to US 152 south)
Pro Tip #2: Stay at the Murray Hotel. Built in 1938, the Murray's art deco style is awesome and makes you feel you've traveled to a different age. Yep, the Murray is also haunted.
If you want to stay even closer to El Paso, head for Old Mesilla. Take I-10 west to Avenida De Mesilla, exit and let the romance begin. To make it even more fun, take highway 28. Trust me.
The Old Mesilla pro tip is, absolutely, hands down, 100 percent, Hacienda de Mesilla. Romantic and historic, with a modern flair, Hacienda de Mesilla is awesome.
The food is AMAZING, the inn is beautiful ... my wife and I had our wedding there, that's how awesome it is ... and they have a ghost or two as well. Perfect for romantic ghost hunting.
