A huge swath of land ... millions and millions of acres, some near El Paso  ... that has always been unavailable to anyone is about to be released by the government.

The Bureau of Land Management oversees pretty much all the open, vacant, land owned by the United States government and it seems they've decided Uncle Sam has way too much.

In New Mexico anyway, the BLM is about to put 14 million acres up for sale and some of it is near El Paso, just east of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

"East" of Las Cruces would put the soon to be for sale land somewhere between Las Cruces and, pretty much, White Sands Missile Range. A pretty secretive military base that, among other weird things like top secret missile testing and a huge Oryx population, also maintains a naval presence.

Yes, the Navy ... and a bunch of free range Oryx ... are totally at home in the freaking desert, just outside El Paso. Anyway, there is some beautiful land, complete with some awesome views out there that may soon look like every other subdivision.

Mind you, not 100% of all this BLM land is 100% up for grabs. According to sourcenm.com; there are some limitations:

The mandate does not apply to national parks, monuments or other “federally protected land” like historic sites, wildlife refuges or fish hatcheries. It also excludes land that is “subject to valid existing rights.”

I'm not really sure I like that but, on the upside, much of this land is very remote and the difficulties in setting up water, electric, gas, water, etc, may cause developers to lose, (at least some), interest in this.

It is truly my hope these open areas stay open .... when it comes to certain real estate though, money wins. We'll see.
