Since the Texas Motor Speedway opened its doors in 1996, the Fort Worth, Texas track has been a staple in the NASCAR schedule. Several drivers have won at the 1.5 mile course but a lucky few have actually scored their very first NASCAR wins at the track & won had his last win before he retired that same year.

After 3 years of racing in NASCAR, on April 6, 1997 during the Interstate Batteries 500, Jeff Burton would FINALLY score his very first win NASCAR race. Jeff would lead a total of 60 laps driving the #99 Exide Ford Thunderbird for Roush Racing. Oh did we mention this was also the VERY FIRST RACE at the Texas Motor Speedway? That's ONE way of getting your name in the history books for sure...

One of the biggest names in NASCAR, the son of Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr. would become the 2nd first time winner in Texas Motor Speedway history. During the 2000 DirecTV 500 (April 2), Dale Jr would prove that, just like his dad, he too can win races in spectacular fashion. Jr would lead a total of 106 laps & drove the iconic red #8 Chevy Monte Carlo to victory lane. (I guess April is a good month for first time winners at Texas).

Fun fact: this was also the first NASCAR race to feature a 4th generation NASCAR driver; Adam Petty. Sadly Adam would finish in 40th place.

There haven't been many drivers to have their final win at Texas Motor Speedway but there was ONE: Carl Edwards who drove for Roush & Joe Gibbs Racing. Carl's final NASCAR season was in 2016 & it was the November Texas race that would be his final win of his career. The 2016 AAA Texas 500 would be shortened due to rain on lap 334, Carl happened to be leading at the win when NASCAR decided to call the race, giving Carl his 28th career victory & would punch his ticket to the Championship 4. Hey a win's a win!

So far we haven't seen a first time winner at Texas since Jr's 2000 win or a final win since Carl's win in 2016. But there's still time for drivers to change that and write their names in history.
