This sounds like something you might read coming out of Florida, but unfortunately it's from Edinburg, TX. A mother was arrested for fraudulently claiming her daughter had cancer to scam generous strangers out of money. Juanita Garcia, 46, had arranged multiple fundraisers to obtain money for "cancer treatment" her daughter was never going to receive, because she doesn't have cancer.

The sheriff's office, in a joint investigation with Child Protective Services found that Garcia would tell people both in person and on social media that her daughter was terminally ill and only had a couple months to live.

Now this sounds pretty awful, right? It gets worse. Garcia went so far as to shave her daughters head, and even convinced the poor girl she actually had cancer.

Thankfully the girl is in perfect health, although keep your fingers crossed this didn't do too much emotional damage, and hopefully the bad genes that would actually compel someone to do this to their child weren't passed on to her. The mother was booked on a felony charge of child exploitation.
