I know I've said it before, but not sure if I've been as adamant on the air as I really am. I am very pro high speed trains. I think it would help travel in the U.S. significantly. The seats are much bigger than airplanes, you have power at every seat, you can use your phone, and so much more.

While we might not be as close as I'd hope to bullet trains. Texas does have a luxury bus line traveling between the major cities called Vonlane. What makes it luxury? Well, here is just some of what it has to offer:

  • All first class seats
  • DirecTV
  • Complimentary high speed Wi-Fi
  • Neck pillows
  • Sleeping masks
  • Even noise-cancelling headsets

So now we know what they offer. How much does it cost? A ticket from Houston to Dallas ranged from $178 to $250. Comparing that to a quick search of plane tickets, which start at about $183, it's not so bad.

Okay, so we now what they offer, and we know how much it costs. But what about time? Taking the bus can take significantly more time that flying, or driving. Vonlane on it's website tracks a trip from Houston to Dallas at about 3 hours and 45 minutes. According to Google, it takes about 3 hours and 24 minutes to drive from Houston to Dallas.

So if I'm choosing between flying, driving, or riding this bus. I'm riding this bus. Unfortunately they only offer three destinations right now, with Houston, Dallas, and Austin. They will start offering service between San Antonio and Houston in 2017. And let's keep our fingers crossed they move their way to West Texas. At least before self driving cars take over the roads.
