I am a strong believer in the phrase, “After every storm there is a rainbow,” and that proved to be correct for one El Paso teen who was in a near-fatal accident earlier this month.

I previously shared the story of Franklin High School Junior Lucas Torres and his surprise homecoming “proposal” to his girlfriend from his hospital bed.

Earlier this month, Lucas was on his way to Walmart to buy supplies that he needed to create a special homecoming proposal for his girlfriend, Cienna.

On his way to the store, he was involved in a roll over accident that required him to be admitted to El Paso Children’s Hospital’s trauma center.

Thanks to the dedicated team of doctors at El Paso Children’s Hospital Lucas was able to recover from his injuries just in time for his homecoming dance.

Before he was officially released from the hospital, Lucas decided that he would surprise his girlfriend Cienna by asking her to prom from his hospital room.

Lucas asked for his friends help in creating a poster that he could hold while his girlfriend walked into his room. The poster read “I’d flip out if you said yes to HOCO with me” and had a picture of a rolled over car underneath the word “flip.”

The special moment was caught on video and it was shared on El Paso Children’s Hospital’s social media pages as well as El Paso’s FItFam page.

The video has over 26-thousand likes and thousands of views and one local Tuxedo shop was one of the thousands that saw the video and decided to reach out to offer Lucas a special gift.

“After they posted it, a tux shop actually texted FitFam and said, ‘Hey we saw what happened, we want to give him a free rental for the homecoming,” said Lucas.

The Tux Shoppe and Boutique, located in West El Paso on 7930 N Mesa St. was so moved by the story that they wanted to make sure Lucas had the perfect Tux to take his girlfriend to their homecoming dance and from the looks of the photos, he sure did!

But wait! It gets better. Cienna’s mom reached out to mention that Posh Bridal also donated a homecoming dress for Cienna after they saw the story.

Posh Bridal is located inside of the Fountains at Farrah on 8889 Gateway Blvd W.
