On Jan. 9, Los Angeles' Sunset Strip will offer one big memorial in honor of late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister.

As previously reported, the main event was supposed to take place at the Rainbow Room, Lemmy's favorite bar, and was originally scheduled for 2PM-2AM. After gauging fan response, however, organizers quickly determined that the Rainbow wouldn't be big enough to handle the demand, and they've altered their plans accordingly.

"Due to the overwhelming and supportive response to Lemmy's memorial we are now using the entire Strip to compensate for overflow," reads the updated Facebook post. "The Rainbow will close from 5:00 until 9:00 for a private service; however, the Roxy and Whisky will remain open to accommodate those looking to show their respects during this time."

Kilmister, who died on Dec. 28 shortly after being diagnosed with what's been described as an "extremely aggressive form of cancer," was a longtime fixture at the Rainbow, where he enjoyed sitting at the bar and playing poker on an arcade machine. According to a statement from the band, the bar actually sent Lemmy the machine in the days prior to his passing, and he was at home playing it before he passed away.

Additionally, Saturday's memorial at Hollywood's Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery will be live-streamed on Motorhead's official YouTube channel, the band announced on its Facebook page.

And in other Rainbow-related Lemmy news, more than 7,000 fans have signed an online petition urging the construction of a memorial statue in his honor at the venue. The campaign was started by Katon De Pena, vocalist for thrash metal band HIRAX, and reportedly has the support of the Rainbow Room's owners.
