The latest edition of the Jones Brothers Youth Skills Camp made its return to the Sun City on Thursday as hundreds of campers packed the Burges High School football field for the free annual event.

Aaron and Alvin Jones, both Mustang alums and UTEP stars, put the camp together under their non-profit foundation, A&A All the Way. The first group featured younger kids—third through eighth grade—and the second group welcomed high schoolers in the area.

The twin brothers had some special guests including UTEP alums and current NFL players Roy Robertson-Harris (Jaguars) and Nik Needham (Dolphins). Packers running back Dexter Williams also made an appearance and joined his teammate in El Paso. In addition, some current UTEP football players helped out at the event as well, including Deion Hankins and Praise Amaewhule.

“At first we weren’t going to have [the camp], but then my mom was like, ‘when’s the camp?’” said Alvin in front of the local media. “She said we’re having one. It’s a great feeling to be here. I think we get more joy than they [the kids] get. Just helping them and seeing them smile, it’s great to see that.”

Alvin said that the brothers are influenced by their late father, Alvin Jones Sr., to continue this camp. Alvin Sr. passed away earlier this year due to COVID-19 complications.

“He [Alvin Sr.] didn’t come from much, but whatever he did he put his best foot forward,” Alvin said. “He always affected change and inspired people. He inspired us and when you have that, whether it be from me or from others, it makes a world of difference.”

This is the first time the camp returns since the COVID-19 pandemic.
