John Quiñones, ‘20/20’ Return to El Paso to Film Hispanic Heritage Special

20/20 Correspondent John Quiñones returned to El Paso this week to film a special celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

The longtime news journalist who also hosts the ABC hidden-camera TV show What Would You Do? and is a regular contributor on Good Morning America, arrived in El Paso Tuesday and has been conducting interviews with a few El Pasoans, hitting up local spots, and posing for pictures with admiring fans.

I can’t find any specific information on what exactly the special will be about other than it will celebrate “Hispanic Heritage” and air on Friday, September 17.

Going off what Quiñones has posted on social media, he filmed a segment in the El Paso History Museum and pays tribute “to the lives lost in the horrific (Walmart) mass slaying,” and talks with artist Jesus "CIMI" Alvarado, an El Paso graffiti artist best known for using his art to honor Chicano culture and whose art was featured in “The Forever Purge” movie. Quiñones wrote that he was “in awe of his art work!”

A piece on Mount Cristo Rey featuring Ruben Escandon Jr., who is with the Mount Cristo Rey Restoration Committee which maintains the trail that leads up to the statue, will also be included as will one with some of the staff of Bowie Bakery in El Paso's historic Segundo Barrio.

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed annually from September 15 to October 15 and celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of the American Latino community.

Quiñones was last in El Paso in April of 2019 to film a segment for What Would You Do?

He and his crew set up inside Mac’s Place at 203 E. Mills, across from San Jacinto Plaza, and put unsuspecting El Pasoans to the test over “today’s immigration issues.” The show also filmed at Mesilla Valley Mall in Las Cruces and the Museum of Space History in Alamogordo.
