New UTEP Athletics Video Brands School as El Paso’s Team
We are less than three weeks away from the start of the college football season and UTEP is gearing up for their home opener on September 7th against Southern Utah. The Miners dropped a one minute and forty two second video on Twitter/X this afternoon that branded the school as "El Paso's Team."
This video hits home with so many long time Miner fans. Paul Sandoval is Miner Vision's senior producer and the architect behind the latest project. The idea of using so many local businesses and people in the community to highlight while humming the UTEP fight song is so well done. From a young boy shooting baskets in a local park, young ballet dancer, a construction worker and hospital nurse, mail carrier, people getting haircuts, a WestStar board meeting, and ABC anchors Stephanie Valle and Bea Martinez, the video does a terrific job of encompassing the El Paso community. Add in Scotty Walden, Dr. Heather Wilson, members of the UTEP band, football team, and basketball team and everyone is ready for the start of the fall athletics season.
Of course we know that UTEP has always been El Paso's team, but the bottom line for most fans is winning games and championships. New head football coach Scotty Walden has generated plenty of excitement around the community and now he has to deliver a product that people will embrace and support in the Sun Bowl. Results might not come overnight, but if fans can watch an entertaining football team on the field that shows potential, the Miners will be headed in the right direction.
According to UTEP officials, more than 30,000 tickets have already been issued for the home opener against Southern Utah. If the Miners can play well against Nebraska on August 31st, then there is an excellent chance that the Sun Bowl will fill up for the game against the Thunderbirds. We will air the first three UTEP games on our partner station KLAQ and then the remaining nine games on 600 ESPN El Paso with Jon Teicher sand Cole Freytag.
