Every year on March 7th, the United States celebrates National Cereal Day. This year, I found myself gazing at the array of cereal boxes neatly lined up on top of our family refrigerator. I couldn't help but count them - there were ten in total. It made me wonder, why are they up there?

So I asked the house boss, "Why do we store our breakfast cereals on the top of our refrigerator?" My wife explained, "When the kids were younger they would open a box of cereal, grab a couple handfuls, and run off leaving A) the box wide open sitting on a chair or the table, B) open and exposed cereals get stale, and C) where the dog or cat could get into them." She added, "Money doesn't grow on trees."

She emphasized that cereal ain't cheap and we ain't made of money. Then I asked, "Why do we have so many different brands then?" Wife Donna replied, "We have eight children, then there's you and I...do the math, honey." The point was well made.
