It’s National Single Parents Day
Today, March 21st, is National Single Parents Day ... a day that's sure to go over BIG around El Paso!
Here in the Borderland, outside of Christmas, Thanksgiving and the drinking holidays; this day probably has the most celebrants of 'em all. What do you give as a gift though? Gift certificate for a "Cuddle Buddy? A book on claiming back child support? Subscription to a single parent dating site? (Hallmark is, as always, on top of this.)
Seriously though, filling both parental roles is tough and, cheers to all who do! Janice Moglen started this day, hoping to make the day as big a deal as Mothers and Fathers day. According to Nationaldaycalendar.com, she:
collaborated with the organization, Parents Without Partners, and began to petition to have states declare recognition of Single Parent Day. Proclamation 5166 was presented to, and signed, by President Ronald Reagan declaring March 21st, 1984 as National Single Parent Day.
Did you know there's also a "Step Parent's Day"?
