Crime is everywhere & New Mexico is no stranger to awful crimes; some infamous outlaws during the days of the Wild West are buried in the state, like Billy the Kid or Black Jack Ketchum. Even today, New Mexico has had plenty of run-ins with the law, especially when it comes to murder. In 2022, the state cracked the top 5 of states with the highest murder rates.

But we know that 2022 is not the only year that we've seen some horrific murders in New Mexico; here are some of the worst cases to happen in state history.

Sadly there have been many more murders that occurred in New Mexico's history. Such cases include:

  • The murder of 10-year-old, Victoria Martens, in Albuquerque. 4 people were responsible for Victoria's murder, including her mother, Michelle Martens. The case is quite gruesome but you can read all about the details that were revealed by local news stations here.
  • Giles & Helga Delisle, along with Peter Weith, were murdered at the Delisle home near Las Cruces, New Mexico in 2019. Eugene "Gino" Ferri was arrested & sentenced to 3 life terms in 2014.
  • Two people from Albuquerque were even killed playing Pokemon Go in 2019; you can read the story we wrote covering that event here.
  • And the Albuquerque killing of 4 Muslim men that occurred between November 7, 2021, to August 5, 2022. Muhammad Syed would be charged with 2 of the murders and as a suspect in 2 other murder cases.
