Human Remains Found In One of El Paso’s Most Haunted Neighborhoods
Yes, you read that right- human remains were found in one of El Paso's most historic neighborhoods, Sunset Heights. The remains were found near the intersection of Upson and Fewel on Tuesday while El Paso Water Utilities crews were replacing aging lines.
Obviously, after the remains were found, the El Paso Water Utilities crew had to stop their work and report it. As Christina Montoya told El Paso Matters, they followed a "standard protocol to notify law enforcement upon discovery of possible remains. After an initial investigation, the Sheriff’s Department notified the Texas Historical Commission, which placed a pause on work."
After the remains were confirmed to be human, The Historical Commission instructed El Paso Water Utilities to hire an archaeologist to examine the remains, and the surrounding area. Montoya confirms that they have hired Arcadis.
As one of the oldest neighborhoods in a city that's already steeped rich in history, it's no surprise that Sunset Heights is deemed haunted. Heather Shade of Lost El Paso Paranormal, who have conducted several ghost tours of the neighborhood, says that investigating the neighborhood is always a great time because you can guarantee that there are haunted locations around every corner.
"These are impressive historic structures, and they hold countless ghost stories. Combine that with the multiple hidden tunnels that run under the streets... and the fact that Mundy Park used to be a cemetery, you can start to see where all the vibes come from." Heather Shade of Lost El Paso Paranormal.
Shade says they've investigated many locations in Sunset Heights over the years, as many of the residents have had strange & mysterious experiences.
