The testing will be free but you’re being urged to make your appointments at least 24 hours in advance. You can set an appointment online at www.txcovidtest.org or by calling 512-883-2400.

This offer of free testing comes after Mayor Dee Margo says he contacted Gov. Greg Abbott following the recent spike in Covid-19 cases. Last week saw the highest one-day total of Covid-19 related deaths so far with 11 El Pasoans succumbing to the disease.

This all transpired very quickly. The seven fatalities happened on Thursday, May 7th. Margo contacted Abbott on Friday. The state’s Rapid Response team arrived in El Paso on Saturday and the first tests are being administered today, Monday May 11th.
