How Is the Weather Looking for El Paso on Thanksgiving Day?

My sweatpants are washed and ready for Turkey Day, so what’s Mother Nature cooking up for El Paso on Thanksgiving?

Cooler temperatures and the best chance for rain that we’ve had in quite some time is what I’m hearing. That being said, the chance is only “slight” and “cooler” doesn’t mean having to wear a puffy jacket – unless you plan to get up really early to squat a spot on the Sun Bowl Parade route.

Rain has been in short supply around here lately. After a very active summer monsoon that brought us higher-than-average rainfall and numerous flooding events, we haven’t had any in over 50 days. At this point it doesn’t appear that trend will be reversed.

According to the National Weather Service El Paso, the chance of precipitation on or before Thanksgiving Day doesn’t look very promising – at best, a 30 percent chance for rain in the morning, but there is “still a lot of uncertainty” and by Thursday the potential rainmaker “may drop too far south/east to have a significant impact on our area.”

All signs currently point to a cool Turkey Day with a sun/cloud mix. The high on Thursday is expected to be in the mid to upper 50s.

Sounds like perfect Sun Bowl parade attending weather. But if you plan to get up super-early to stake out a spot along Montana Avenue you might need a heavy jacket as temps are expected to be in the mid to upper 40s in the overnight and early morning hours. "Along with the cooler air, the front will usher in some breezy winds," NWSEP adds.
