The weather is getting colder so you better be ready for the flu season. Find out where you can get your flu shot free thanks to the City of El Paso. The City of El Paso started the "Be PowerFlu" campaign to encourage El Pasoans to get their flu shot before the winter flu season. Currently, El Paso hospitals are at capacity and the city is now under curfew due to the massive surge in cases in the El Paso region.

Today alone, the Department of Public Health announced a new record of 1,443 new positive covid cases and there were an additional 118 cases from earlier weeks. We also saw a new record of hospitalizations with 853 El Pasoans currently hospitalized.

KVIA is also reporting that the El Paso Convention Center will be turned into an auxiliary hospital that can house 50 to 100 patients, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has asked the federal government to use the old William Beaumont Army hospital for non-COVID patients, and El Paso area hospitals will begin airlifting patients to other Texas hospitals because of the lack of space.

While the situation continues to get worse in the Borderland, there are steps you can take to protect yourself and your family during the colder months.

The City of El Paso initiated this month the "Be PowerFlu" campaign to encourage El Pasoans to get their flu shots early to better protect themselves from the annual flu, as well as the coronavirus. While the flu shot can't protect you against covid-19, according to the CDC, there are benefits to getting the shot.

Flu vaccines can help reduce your risk of becoming sick, being hospitalized, and even death. By taking the step of getting the flu vaccine you could help save healthcare resources for hospital patients with and without COVID-19.

The El Paso Department of Public Health has purchased over 133,000 immunizations and are prepared to give them out to the public.

The City of El Paso has various locations throughout the city that offer free flu shots to El Pasoans. Flu shots are available for free and without an appointment. If you would like to get a flu shot from the City of El Paso, please visit one of the following sites:
