Last week New Mexico State Police Officer Darion Jarrott was killed during a traffic stop on I-10 near Deming. Officer Jarrott pulled over a white pickup truck Thursday afternoon when the driver shot at the officer killing him according to KTSM News. The shooter then led law enforcement on a high-speed chase that ended in a shootout in Las Cruces. The suspect was killed during the shootout and a Las Cruces Police Officer was wounded and has since recovered.

Officer Jarrott became a New Mexico State Police officer in 2015, according to a press release. He was married and a father of three with another little one on the way. The New Mexico State Police held a press conference to discuss the shooting and to let the community know more about the fallen officer. New Mexico State Police Chief Robert Thorntonspoke to one of Officer Jarrott's captains who spoke highly of the 28-year-old officer and said he was known to his superiors for always having a smile on his face. The entire press conference is available to view on the KTSM website.

Since the tragic death of Officer Jarrott, the community has come together to help his family left behind. A Facebook fundraiser was arranged and has since raised over $86,000 dollars and counting.

They are currently selling various New Mexico State Police and Las Cruces Police decals for $5 (cash only) with 100% of the proceeds going to the family of Officer Jarrott.
