The tragic news of the passing of Los Angeles Rapper Coolio was announced Wednesday evening. According to reports, Coolio was found unresponsive in his friend's bathroom. Medics were called and pronounced Coolio dead on the scene.

His official cause of death has not yet been released, but medics do believe that the cause of death was due to cardiac arrest.

Coolio achieved mainstream success in the mid-to-late 1990s. He is best known for his 1995 Grammy Award-winning hit single “Gangsta’s Paradise” from the 1995 film “Dangerous Minds,” as well as other singles like “Fantastic Voyage,” and “C U When U Get There.”

Coolio In The Borderland:

Coolio is no stranger to the borderland. He first came to El Paso back in 2016 when he performed at the Don Haskins Center for the Old School Throwback Jam.

Coolio was joined by rappers Vanilla Ice, Rob Base, Rapper’s Delight featuring Master Gee and Wonder Mike of Sugar Hill Gang, Tone Loc, Grandmasters Furious Five featuring Melle Mel and Scorpio, Young MC and Candyman along with R&B acts The Jets and Color Me Badd.

Just last year Coolio made his way back to the borderland to perform for Minerpalooza alongside Petey Pablo and Ying Yang Twins.

Minerpalooza Emcee, Monica Castillo, shared a post on her Instagram account remembering when she had the honor of introducing Coolio at Minerpalooza.

“I was so excited to see him perform. I'm grateful I did.”
