Marvel Actor Now Teaching at a Texas University

Texas has produced its fair share of Hollywood talent, but not every rising Marvel star spends their downtime grading homework assignments. One Texas-native actor is balancing red carpets, streaming hits, and now a college classroom.

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, actor Saagar Shaikh revealed the unexpected side hustle that has him trading Hollywood sets for a teaching gig at a Texas university.

If Saagar Shaikh looks familiar, you’ve probably seen him in The Marvels alongside Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Samuel L. Jackson as part of Kamala Khan’s family.

Now, the San Antonio native is also starring in Hulu’s crime-comedy series Deli Boys with actor Asif Ali. The pair appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week to promote the show’s upcoming second season, but it was Shaikh’s off-screen job that grabbed attention.

The Marvel Actor’s Unexpected Texas Side Hustle

During the interview, Shaikh revealed that he recently became a professor at UT San Antonio.

The whole thing reportedly started during South by Southwest last year when Shaikh met a photographer from The Paisano, UTSA’s student-run newspaper. The student mentioned studying film at the university, which surprised Shaikh since he graduated from UTSA in 2011 with a business degree.

That conversation eventually led to Shaikh hosting a panel for students in 2025. At the end of it, he jokingly told students to let the university know if they wanted him back as a teacher.

Apparently, they did! Shaikh is now a professor of practice in UTSA’s Dramatic Arts Program, though he admitted teaching has been tougher than expected.

Shaikh also shared that when he discovered most of his students had not watched the first season of Deli Boys, he decided to make it required viewing.

He played the first episode in class and later assigned the show as homework. He even told Kimmel there will apparently be a Deli Boys quiz at the end of the semester.

Deli Boys follows two Pakistani American brothers who discover their father’s deli business is secretly tied to a criminal enterprise after his sudden death. The Hulu series blends comedy, crime, and family drama and has quickly built a growing fanbase.

Season 2 premieres May 28 on Hulu.
