FC Juarez Drops Season Opener at Pumas

A petulant tantrum at midfield after an insignificant foul, in the 41st minute by FC Juarez forward Gabriel ‘El Toro’ Fernandez, was the catalyst that led to a season opening defeat in Mexico City on Sunday afternoon as Pumas came back to defeat FC Juarez by the score of 2-1.

Fernandez received a red card in the closing minutes of the first half as a result of two yellow cards he was awarded seconds apart when he couldn’t help but to mouth off to referee Oscar Macias Romo who didn’t hesitate to give him two almost consecutive yellow cards that led to the red.

All this happened while Bravos led Pumas 1-0 on the campus of the national university. The lead for FC Juarez came in the 29th minute when Alan Medina scored off a cross by Fernandez who made a run down the left flank.

Playing with a one man advantage, the home team diligently pressured the team from the Borderland to be able to take the lead within a ten minute span. Pumas scored in the 76th and 86th minute to win the match.

Up next for FC Juarez will be their home opener at Benito Juarez Olympic Stadium next Saturday. The Bravos will host Xolos de Tijuana in a match that is scheduled a 6:10 p.m. MST. Xolos is coming off of a 1-1 draw against Cruz Azul in Baja California.
