Cory Herman joined us yesterday on SportsTalk and we asked him about the Events Center renovations. Things are moving along rapidly for the winners of the Kraft Hockeyville Contest, and the outside renovations to the roof have already been completed. The insulation to the indoor side of the roof will start as soon as the ice is laid down in the arena. Herman told us that is expected to happen by mid to late October. Other improvements include replacing all of the Events Center lights with new LED lights. Herman added that the arena will look much brighter after the lights are replaced.

As for the much anticipated NHL exhibition game, discussions are now underway and the 2021-22 season is the target date. However, since the Tampa Bay Lightning just won their second Stanley Cup earlier this week, the league will take a few months off and is expected to begin their next season either in December or next January. With dates still in flux, the NHL might not be able to secure the start of the 2021-22 season until later next year. The Dallas Stars are expected to play in El Paso but their opponent is still a mystery.

As for the Rhinos, they announced that their home schedule will start November 20th when they welcome Oklahoma City to the newly renovated Events Center. Coach Herman said his team will be extremely young as they compete in the NA3HL, because he is preparing to develop the group before they move into the NAHL for the 2021-22 season. Here is the rest of their home schedule.
