The El Paso Zoo Society is embracing the cherished 3,000-year-old celebration of Día de los Muertos with a new gala complete with colorful decoration, themed food, wine, beer, specialty cocktails and, of course, high-spirited entertainment.

The event will celebrate life, past and present, including Rudo, the zoo's African Lion who passed last year. Alebrijes, or spirit animals, also will be part of the festivities, including images of Juno, the zoo's Asian Elephant and Ralph, the zoo's Galapagos tortoise, created by Chuco Relic.
