Winterfest gets underway this Saturday, November 19. Opening Day festivities will include the annual tree lighting, a vendor’s market, and the nighttime lights parade.

With anywhere from 45,000 to 55,000 spectators expected downtown, traffic will no doubt be bumper to bumper and parking spots might be hard to come by.

To alleviate some of the congestion, give you more parking options, and save you a few bucks, Sun Metro is rolling out extended streetcar service and free parking at the Glory Road Transit Center.

The extended streetcar hours on the 19th mean you don’t have to park downtown.

Just roll into the Glory Road Transit Center by UTEP, and jump onboard the trolley at the stop across the street. Both the parking and the streetcar ride will be free that day.

Hours of operation are 2 p.m. to midnight. Only the Upper Loop will be running to accommodate the WinterFest Lights Parade route.

The streetcar, for those who have never ridden one, makes numerous stops along its uptown loop so give yourself plenty of time to get to and from downtown.
