Governor Greg Abbott is here to make sure cities in Texas don't defund the police. I've said this before and I'll say it again, defunding the police is one of the stupidest ideas that has come out of 2020. Does there need to be more training and work done to ensure the best situation possible? Absolutely. Bit defunding the police makes no sense.

Some cities in Texas want to defund and dismantle police departments in our state. This reckless action invites crime into our communities and threatens the safety of all Texans including our law enforcement officers and their families.

The city of El Paso apparently agrees with the governor as we are set to increase the police department budget by $5.8 million. Talking about this increase in funding, El Paso Mayor Dee Margo said:

Actions speak louder than words, and this year we increased the Police Department budget by $5.8 million. The men and women of the Police Department are the reason we consistently rank among the safest cities in the country, and it is imperative we continue funding public safety.

Mayor Margo has a solid point. The men and women of the Police Department are the reason why we consistently rank one of the safest cities in the United States. Back before I moved here, my boss gave me a folder filled with stats and facts about how safe El Paso is. I think he was concerned I had only heard about how bad the violence down in Juarez was. Either way, it worked. I'm here in EP.
