This Is the Kind of Pumpkin El Paso Actually Needs
El Paso, I have found our next fall food obsession. And before you start thinking pumpkin spice, hear me out.
Every year, fall arrives and suddenly pumpkin spice finds its way into EVERYTHING. Coffee. Cookies. Cereal. Candy. At this point, I'm surprised we're not brushing our teeth with it.
But this pumpkin creation? This is something I can absolutely get behind.
Because instead of being filled with pumpkin spice, this pumpkin is filled with MEAT.
Meet the Pumpkin-Shaped Torta El Paso Needs
A Chicago Mexican restaurant called Tacotlán recently debuted what it calls Chicago's first pumpkin-shaped torta, and one look at this thing immediately made me think: El Paso can totally do this.
The bread itself is orange and shaped like a little pumpkin, complete with those signature pumpkin ridges and a stem on top. Then you open it up and realize it's not some cute fall pastry.
It's a TORTA!
And suddenly, pumpkin season has my full attention.
Tacotlán recently debuted this creation, but this isn't the first time the restaurant has gotten creative with its tortas. Apparently, Tacotlán likes playing with its food.
Before the pumpkin came along, the restaurant created a gingerbread-man-shaped torta for the holidays. Then came a shamrock-shaped torta.

Now they've moved on to fall with this glorious little meat-filled pumpkin.
I respect the commitment.
But after seeing what they're doing in Chicago, I can't help thinking about all of the incredible Mexican restaurants, bakeries and talented cooks we have right here in El Paso.
You're telling me nobody here can make us a pumpkin torta?!

El Paso Restaurants Consider This My Official Plea
Come on, El Paso. I KNOW we can do this.
We've got the tortas. We've got incredible panaderías. We've got people in this city who can take just about any food idea and somehow make it even better.
All I'm asking is for one brave local restaurant to step forward and give us the pumpkin-shaped torta we deserve.
Fill it with carne asada. Fill it with barbacoa. Fill it with birria. I'm not here to tell the professionals how to do their jobs.
I just want this delicious meat-filled pumpkin.
Your move, El Paso!
