But for Metallica fans here in the Sun City, a throwback video is giving us a fun reminder of the last time the metal legends rocked El Paso.

When Metallica Rocked El Paso

On February 28, 2019, Metallica played a completely sold-out show at the Don Haskins Center, marking their first performance in El Paso in 27 years. The last time the band had played here before that was January 21, 1992, so it’s safe to say the crowd had been waiting a while!

The band definitely delivered. The night was packed with massive riffs, classic songs, and a crowd that was more than ready to welcome Metallica back to the Sun City. I was lucky enough to be there myself, and it was my first time seeing the band live, so I knew it was one of those shows I couldn’t miss out on!

Now, a behind-the-scenes rehearsal video from that stop is giving fans a rare look at what the band was doing before they even hit the stage.

The video starts with Lars Ulrich suggesting they warm up with “Here Comes Revenge.” But Kirk Hammett quickly admits he doesn’t have his notes with him, leading to a slightly rough run-through of the song. Lars gives Kirk a playful side-eye and calls him out, prompting Kirk to promise he’ll be “committed to playing it for the next show.”

This is such a great clip of the guys just being themselves!

For Metallica fans, it’s a cool little reminder that even one of the biggest bands in the world still has those real, behind-the-scenes moments before showtime.

And for those of us who were there that night at the Don Haskins Center, it’s a pretty great throwback to one unforgettable night in the Sun City. And if you can't catch them at the Sphere, relive this awesome moment from the El Paso show- where Lars eventually got it together for the show!
