El Paso Locomotive Return to Southwest University Park July 11
The El Paso Locomotive FC announced today that their first game back to Southwest University Park will be sooner rather than later. On Saturday, July 11th, the Loco's will be hitting the field as they host the Rio Grande Valley FC. It's their first game back at Southwest University Park since their 3-0 Playoff Victory from October.
Earlier this year, in March, the USL suspended games for thirty days. Those thirty days came and went, and unfortunately the COVID-19 situation didn't improve. With a rising number of cases in the area, Locos along with the El Paso Chihuahuas were not playing games.
In a statement, head coach and technical director Mark Lowry said:
“We have always taken great pride in representing the Borderplex community and playing for each and every El Pasoan during what has been a difficult year for everyone makes this an emotional moment. We are the only live professional sport in El Paso at the moment, and we want to put on a show for everyone watching at Southwest University Park or at home. I do ask that everyone continues to follow CDC guidelines, wear your mask and maintain the required distancing inside and outside of the stadium so we can put a show on for you all in a safe and friendly environment.”
You can sign up for the ticketing waiting list here. In order to comply with social distancing measures, cardboard cutout images of fans will be filling the empty seats. If you are not able to make it to the game, great news: you can purchase a cardboard cutout of yourself to fill in the empty seats in the stands for home games through the 2020 season through Cutout Conductor. You can find more information about Cutout Conductor, including how to purchase one of your own, here.
