This weekend, the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania became the latest in a string of mass shootings. Eleven people were killed and four police officers were wounded in the horrific incident on Saturday morning. Worshippers were in the synagogue attending a baby-naming ceremony, while others were gathered in fellowship when shots rang out.

Killed in the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in America were:

Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz, 66 years old
Cecil and David Rosenthal, brothers, 59 and 54 years old
Rose Mallinger, 97 years old
Sylvan and Bernice Simon, husband and wife, 84 and 86 years old
Daniel Stein, 71 years old
Joyce Fienberg, 75 years old
Richard Gottfried, 65 years old
Melvin Wax, 88 years old
Irving Younger, 69 years old

To honor the dead and wounded, Chabad of El Paso, Congregation B’Nai Zion, El Paso Holocaust Museum, the Jewish Federation of Greater El Paso, and Temple Mount Sinai, along with the Interfaith Community, many other community organizations from across the city will be holding a vigil today, October 29.

The groups say they want to unite in their grief and condemn such horrific antisemitic events. The vigil will show that we are strong in a shared commitment to stand against hate. The vigil will begin at 5:30pm in San Jacinto Plaza.

May the memory of those lost be a blessing.
