El Paso Filmmaker Snags Another Honor
Writer, actor, and filmmaker Arturo Portillo just keeps stacking up the honors.
Not too long ago, Arturo Portillo had one of his films, "Among Us", nominated for an award at the legendary Cannes Film Festival. (You can buy a copy of the paperback here.) Another of his movies, Beaten, really scored at the Mindfield Film Festival • Albuquerque winning 7 awards. A silver award for Best Actor for Frank Powers and another Silver Award for Best Supporting Actor for Hector Dez, 3 Gold Awards for Best Feature Film, Director and Screenwriting along with 2 Diamond Awards for Best Editing and Best Cinematography.
Now Arturo has won yet another award, this time for a screenplay he wrote years ago. He posted this announcement on his Facebook page:
Woke up to amazing news that my feature screenplay The Last Ride won Best Screenplay in the Los Angeles Cinematography Awards. I wrote this script in 1997 and then I put it away thinking I was going to film this when I enrolled in college, but nothing materialized. Now, during my isolation in this pandemic, I decided to dust it off after so many years and write it right!
Arturo doesn't just work behind the camera, he acts as well and one movie he was in, "Save Me", will be screened at the 2020 El Paso Film Festival, October 16-25. It will be a virtual festival this year thanks to COVID-19 so everyone will be able to see the movie in the comfort of their own homes for FREE!
