Relax El Paso, The Avocado Supply Line Is Fine
A bunch of new tariffs recently went into effect on all kinds of different products across the USA. Fortunately, this El Paso "must have" has been marked safe.
El Paso's most favorite fruit ... yes, it's totally a fruit ... will not be impacted by all the recent tariffs that have been levied on goods, products, foods, etc from other countries.
Many prices, including beer prices, will be rising due to the tariffs but some countries were spared. That includes Mexico who supplies the USA with most of our avocado stash.
Rest easy El Paso, there should be no need to worry about monstrous price hikes on avocados so you can keep counting on mounds of guacamole to dip your tostadas in. The rising beer prices are a far more drastic concern to me and, probably, most of El Paso.
Until the 1980's, the USA held its own in the avocado world, growing pretty much all we needed domestically. These days, 90% of our aguacate is imported and around 80% of those imports come from Mexico.
Why Eat Avocado?
Personally, I hate avocados ... bland and awful ... but, I have to admit, the little devils are a hit. Considered a "superfood", they're hella good for you. Benefits include improved digestion, they may help prevent cancer, they're heart healthy and good for your vision among other things.
They're good for your skin, bones and brain too. Guacamole and avocado toast are among the best ways to eat them and they can be dessert. Tom Brady makes ice cream out of his.
