Did You Know There Are Tons Of Fossils In The Amarillo Area?

We've all seen movies like Jurrasic Park, National Treasure, etc. right? These movies take us to places we think we can never go. I mean, there isn't a true Jurrasic Park, and that's probably a good thing.

However, National Treasure is more realistic...in certain ways. I mean, we aren't stealing the Declaration of Independence while we're treasure hunting, but there ARE people that go on lifelong searches for those types of things.

What if I told you that you could go on fossil hunts and possibly find some prehistoric artifacts right here in our own backyard? Well, I'm here to tell you just that. Now, you can go to Palo Duro Canyon and find some of the stuff I'm about to tell you, but they encourage you NOT to take anything you find.

I want you to be able to keep your treasures, and there are plenty of places, especially in Randall County, where you can go to dig up some pretty cool fossils.

The website fossilspot.com is a place where people log fossils they have found and where they were able to find them, and Randall County seems to be a major hot spot for them.

Now, are we talking about dinosaur fossils or anything like that? Not that I've seen from what's been logged in Randall County, but it doesn't mean they aren't there. However, there have been fossils from all sorts of different mammals, amphibians, and other walks of life.
