The Hammond Police Department are being sued by a couple, after using excessive force during a traffic stop. Lisa Mahone and Jamal Jones were pulled over on September 24, for not wearing a seat belt. When the officers asked for Mahone's identification, they also asked for her passenger, Jones, information. Jones didn't have a driver's license, so he reached over to the backseat to grab a paper with his information, but the police didn't accept it.

The officers then asked Jones to stepped out of the car, but he refused, because both Jones and Mahone felt they were in "imminent danger." The officers ended up breaking into the passenger-side window, and used a stun gun on Jones.

Jones was then arrested and charged with resisting law enforcement, while Mahone was given a citation for not wearing her seatbelt and was let go.

The couple is now suing the Hammond Police Department. This isn't the first time the officers have been involved with a case like this. Officers Patrick Vicari and Charles Turner, have been involved in four previous federal lawsuits, three for Vicari and one for Turner.
