A lot happened on the season finale of “The Mandalorian” that I feel like I need to talk about it. If you haven’t seen it yet and don’t like spoilers you should stop reading right now.

Okay?

The Star Wars Fandom world is still in awe following the surprise appearance of Luke Skywalker on last week’s episode. It’s weird that, considering he is the main protagonist of the series, Luke is NO ONE’S favorite Star Wars character. Even when I was in third grade, when we would play Star Wars NOBODY wanted to be Luke. Everybody wanted to be Han Solo. I think it’s because in the first trilogy you see Luke moping and whining much more than you saw him kicking ass. Then, in the most recent trilogy, you see Old Man Luke…moping and whining more than kicking ass. Finally…FINALLY…we got to see what a badass Luke Skywalker really is! Those Dark Troopers were essentially flying Terminators and The Mandalorian had to get lucky to defeat just ONE of them. Then, Luke shows up and takes them all out in a matter of moments. He dispatches the final Storm Trooper/Terminator (Storminator?) by using the force to crush it like an empty soda can. This is the first time we’ve seen the evidence that Luke IS one of the most powerful Force-users of all time.

A few other random thoughts:

The CGI for “Young Luke” was…O.K. I’d say it was at least a tiny bit better than the Leia and Grand Moff Tarkin CGI from “Rogue One”. Something around the mouth didn’t look 100% convincing. It’s still not perfect but I wasn’t as distracted by it as I was with the previous attempts.

Moff Gideon was kind of a pushover. With his badass Dark Saber, I was expecting more from this guy. I expected him to be as formidable as other Sith. Was Gideon even a Force practitioner?

We find out that Grogu (Baby Yoda) goes off to be trained by Luke. So…where is Grogu in any of the movies starting with “The Force Awakens”? The rebels have their back up against a wall and you never hear a mention of Grogu. Is it because he was STILL a baby (he would have been around 90 years old by this time). Or, is it possible Grogu was killed? Possibly by Kylo Ren when he turned to the Dark Side? Something tells me we’ll see Baby Yoda again. Maybe he’ll be Toddler Yoda or Teenage Goth-phase Yoda by then.

There is a post-credit scene in which we find out that Jabba’s palace on Tattooine is now ruled by Bib Fortuna, Jabba’s former Major Domo. He’s on his throne for about 30 seconds before Boba Fett and Fennick show up and “demote” him with a blaster shot to the face. Then, Boba sits broodingly on the throne, Fennick pours herself one of those blue space-moonshines and we’re told that “The Book of Boba Fett” is coming “December 21st, 2021”.

JEEPERS! That’s…exactly ONE YEAR FROM TODAY!

Let’s go ahead and get the countdown started. Just 365 days left!
