This NASCAR Driver Has Great Chance Being the Next Texas Champion
The Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona wrapped up on Saturday, August 26th in wild fashion; many wrecks & upsets were had that night. But in the end, 16 drivers are set to fight for the 2023 NASCAR Championship. One of them representing the state of Texas; the 30 year old Chris Buescher out of Prosper, Texas.
2023 has been a good year for Texas' Chris Buescher
Prior to the year, Chris only managed to score twice in his NASCAR career:
- In 2016 during the Pennslyvania 400 at Pocono
- and in 2022 during the night race at Bristol
While his playoff run wasn't the best in 2016 (and last year his win came after the playoffs were set in place), 2023 has proven to be a great year for Chris; he's already scored a few wins so far while driving the #17 Ford Mustang for RFK Racing.
Chris's first win of 2023 came in Richmond, Virginia during the Cook Out 400 (locking his spot into the playoffs) on July 31st.
His next win came the very next week; August 7th at the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan.
His recent win was this past Sunday at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 in Daytona. This marks his 3rd win for 2023 (the 3rd in just 5 races).
The most amazing part is that Chris wasn't looked at as a championship contender. He now sits 4th place in championship standings over favorites such as Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson & reigning champ, Joey Logano.
The last time we saw a driver win a NASCAR championship was Bobby Labonte from Corpus Christi winning in the year 2000. Since then, it has been a long time since a Texas driver has won the big championship trophy.
Now the big question is WILL Chris win the championship this year? Obviously we will have to see what happens between September & November in these next 10 races.
May the best driver win.
