Chapin High B-Ball Standout Transfers To Duncanville For Senior Season

One of the best high school players to ever come out of El Paso will play his senior season for Texas 6A powerhouse Duncanville.

KJ Lewis made the announcement this week on his social media pages.

Lewis, a 6’4” guard who has already committed to play his college ball at Arizona, averaged 18.7 points per game this last season as a Chapin Huskie.  KJ is the kind of rare talent that most observers believe will be a sure thing to play in the N.B.A. someday.

Lewis and his mom, Monica Ramirez, have already made the move to Duncanville. Mom took a teaching job at the High School and KJ will be looking to win a 6A Texas championship which would make it four…FOUR…in a row for Duncanville.

The Panthers won it all in 2019, again in 2021, and yet again in the 2022 season. The Duncanville squad was also the favorite to win the state championship in 2020 before the season was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic.

I’ve already seen some snide comments posted, taking shots at KJ for “deserting” Chapin or somehow “snubbing El Paso” with the move. I would just say to critics: this young man has a bright future ahead of him.

You can’t blame someone with so much potential for maximizing his own profile with so much at stake. People in El Paso should be pulling for KJ Lewis now because we all know that when he suits up in the NBA, we’ll all be claiming him as one of our own.

Also, if you’re a Chapin fan or alum and you’re feeling a bit sore…just imagine what the kid who THOUGHT he was finally going to get to start for Duncanville this year is going through. Whoever that guy is, HE has a reason to be miffed.
