‘Tis the season for promposals! Not sure what a promposal is? No worries, I didn’t know what that was either because when I was in high school I got asked to prom last minute by a friend who felt bad that no one had asked me yet. *cries in Spanish* But I’ll save that story for later.

A promposal usually involves a special or elaborate act or presentation that took some thought and time to prepare. It’s a way for high school student’s to show off their creativity when asking someone out to prom and that’s exactly what Michael Genera, a junior at Burges High School, did when he decided to ask his girlfriend Eliz Miranda to Prom.

“So her name is Eliz but we really have a connection to the movie UP so I call her Ellie as her nickname,” said Genera. “SoI just thought this promposal should be UP themed.”

Genera is part of the Burges High School band and decided to use his sweet guitar skills to serenade his girlfriend while asking her to prom during their physics class.

“The lesson for our physics class that day was about music and guitar harmonics so I was like “I’m gonna demonstrate how you play these harmonics'' but I really didn’t.” Said Genera. “I just played the theme song to "Up" and she wasn’t expecting it at all.”

The theme song to Disney’s “Up” is titled Married Life. Genera said that it took him a week to learn the song on his guitar and once he nailed that part he decided to add a little extra sweetness to his promposal and he went out to grab supplies to create a poster that read, “Let’s go on an adventure to prom.”

Michael made sure to ask his physics teacher, Mr. Toscano, for permission to do this sweet gesture in the middle of his class and his teacher was kind enough to help Michael by holding up the poster after he finished playing the song.

Ummm can someone give Mr. T an award for coolest teacher EVER!?!

The sweet moment was caught on video by a classmate who had a feeling that Genera wasn’t teaching the class a lesson, he was instead about to ask his girlfriend of 6 months out to prom. ( And of course she said yes, in case you were wondering.)

“There were a couple of students that caught on and started recording and that’s where the videos came from and they thought it was very sweet,” said Genera.

The video was also shared on El Paso Independent School Districts' official Instagram page as well as FitFam of El Paso’s Instagram page.

After the video was shared across social media Michael was contacted by a local tuxedo shop, The Tux Shoppe & Boutique in east El Paso, and they offered to give him a FREE tuxedo rental for the couple's special prom which will be taking place this Saturday!

Michael has some simple words of advice for any high school students out there who are too nervous to think out of the box when it comes to promposals, “Just go for it! It’s going to be one of four years that you have in high school so you might as well make the best of it!”

BRB, gonna ask Post Malone out to prom because Michael pumped me up! Also, shoutout to George Amezaga for asking me out to prom in high school when no one else wanted to! *Cries in Spanish* You're the real MVP!
