A true friendship is never forgotten and always admired.

Bruce Springsteen paid tribute to his longtime friend and mentor Pete Seeger who passed away Monday evening. His tribute took place in South Africa on Tuesday and Springsteen sang the protest song 'We Shall Overcome' which is Seeger's signature tune.

Springsteen, who has been a collaborator of Seeger also performed at his 90th birthday celebration in 2009. Springsteen even won a Grammy in 2006 for the album 'We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions'.

The popular and very well known song 'We Shall Overcome' was/is the defining song of the Civil Rights Era providing a valiant quest for equality. Seeger began performing said song in 1947. In 1957, he performed it for Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and it soon became a staple at the Civil Rights rallies. It was sung by 50,000 people at Rev. King's funeral.
