Beto O’Rourke Helping Older El Pasoans Sign Up For COVID Vaccine
Former Congressman Beto O'Rourke is helping some older El Paso residents sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine. If you live in Southern El Paso, keep an eye out because you might see Beto O'Rourke knocking on your front door sometime soon.
Our former local congressman has volunteered to help canvas neighborhoods and register El Paso residents for the COVID-19 vaccine. Beto O'Rourke was spotted over the weekend canvassing in the 79901 zip code neighborhood, knocking on doors and encouraging residents to sign-up for the vaccine.
There have been reports that some older El Pasoans have been having trouble signing up for the vaccine and the City is working to try and assist those individuals. UMC also reported that there is a telephone number for individuals 75 years of age and up that they can use to register for the vaccine.
According to KVIA, the 79901 zip code has the fourth-highest infection rate and has the lowest per-capita income of any El Paso zip code. El Paso County has done exceptionally well when it comes to getting vaccines into El Pasoans' arms, but due to the technology barrier for much older El Pasoans, the most vulnerable to the virus may not be getting vaccines as quickly as they should.
The group of volunteers will not only help with making sure they get appointments for their first and second doses of the vaccine, but they will also make sure those residents have rides to get to and from the vaccination sites.
