Everyone jokes about being addicted to chocolate or pizza but, you know what?  It might be true.

The University of Michigan has just released a study finding that certain foods can trigger "addictive" eating habits.  Nicole Avena, an assistant professor of pharmacology and systems therapeutics, says;

“This is a first step toward identifying specific foods, and properties of foods, which can trigger this addictive response.” “This could help change the way we approach obesity treatment. It may not be a simple matter of ‘cutting back’ on certain foods, but rather, adopting methods used to curtail smoking, drinking and drug use.”

A Betty Ford clinic for hamburger dependency?  They seem to think it could happen.

As for which foods are the most addictive, heavily processed stuff tops the list.  Things like pizza, chocolate, potato chips, cookies and french fries.  Believe it or not though, steak, eggs and chicken breast are also there.  See the "top 25 addictive foods" here.
