It looks like the plan to get Odell Beckham Jr. to Dallas in time for the playoffs is off the table.

Now, according to multiple reports, the Cowboys have been in talks with an NFL Hall-of-Famer to give Dak Prescott another target. The great in question is none other than Terrell Owens who is 49 years old!

T.O. is definitely one of the greatest receivers in NFL history, ranking third in career receiving yards AND touchdowns. He was voted into the Hall of Fame in 2018, his third year of eligibility.

But let’s put that age factor into perspective.

At 49 years of age (so, technically, not fifty years old but I’m rounding it up for headline purposes), Owens is 4 ½ years older than the current Old Man in the league, Tom Brady.  T.O. is TWENTY years older than Cowboys QB Dak Prescott. He’s the SAME age as current Cowboys receivers Ceedee Lamb and Michael Gallup…combined!!

These purported talks have been widely covered on sports sites like The Landry Hat and Fox Sports.

But, digging a little deeper it looks like these “talks” may have been a little more lop-sided. As SI reports, “Terrell Owens, 49, Calls Jerry Jones Seeking Tryout”. Also, it seems the main source pushing these rumors is none other than Gregory D.L Daniel, Esq., Owens’ Houston-based agent.

It’s from Daniel that we get tantalizing tidbits about T.O. “running a 4.5 40-yard dash” and “getting up and running hills at 3 a.m. on Christmas morning.”  It’s Gregory D.L. Daniel who provides quotes like, “We’ve been in constant communication with Jerry Jones’ office over the last few days about the possibility of him returning”.

Of course, “constant communication” could mean “we left several messages but haven’t heard back from Jerry”.

As of press time, though, it’s looking like the “talks”, whatever they actually consisted of, have stalled.

However, that doesn’t mean T.O. doesn’t still have a football future, whether it be with the Canadian Football League, the American Flag Football League or the Fan Controlled Football. All of those are things that actually exist and that Owens has participated in during the past 5 years.
